Markham Woods Road Improvements:
- Lake Mary Blvd Pedestrian Tunnel Construction: a pedestrian tunnel option on Lake Mary Blvd at International Pkwy was selected over a bridge option due to aesthetics and cost. This project will cause significant traffic problems during its construction, but will be a major asset to the community when completed. Expected finish date is August 2011.
- Update (6/6/2011): Completion of the pedestrian tunnel project has been delayed 60 to 90 days, partially due to utility company scheduling conflicts, according to representatives from PB Americas, the compay managing the project for Seminole County. That puts the target completion date around Thanksgiving Day at the latest. There will be at least one more traffic lane shift between now and the end of the project.
- Update (5/3/2011): In conjunction with the ongoing pedestrian tunnel project, traffic will be switched to a new configuration on Saturday, May 7. In order to perform the traffic striping and lane shifts that will be required for the new traffic pattern, all left turn lanes and various through lanes at the intersection will be closed starting at 3:00 AM on Saturday, May 7th for approximately twelve (12) hours. Detours will be in place to direct traffic around the work zone. Once the traffic is in the new configuration, all lanes will be opened. The traffic switch will be completed by Saturday afternoon. This work will cause traffic delays and motorists are encouraged to drive with caution. Coordination between traffic signals will be in place to help with the traffic congestion and backup. The signal timings along Lake Mary Blvd. will be adjusted as needed. It is recommended motorists adjust their driving habits accordingly to ensure safe passage through the construction zone. Seminole County, PB Americas (PB) and Southland Construction are working together to maintain a safe work zone for motorist, pedestrians and workers and appreciate your cooperation.
- Markham Woods Road Center Lane/Turn Lanes Project: The Markham Woods Association had several meetings with Seminole county engineers and Commissioner Brenda Carey. This project was planned for 3 lanes from EE Williamson to Lake Mary Blvd and cost approximately 3.5 million dollars. With the assistance of feedback from Markham Woods Road area homeowners, this project was scaled down to just 8 new turn lanes saving approximately 100 native trees along Markham Woods Road. The remaining money was transferred to improving and resurfacing Markham Woods Road from Lake Mary Blvd to Markham Road.
- SR-434 Expansion: the widening of SR-434 from I-4 west to Montgomery Road from four lanes to six lanes was completed in November 2010.
